Laser & Light Therapy

Offering the most innovative techniques for your dermatologic care, Dermatology Associates of Concord commonly uses laser and light therapy for treatment of skin conditions such as acne, skin cancer, and spider veins.

Phototherapy, or light therapy, involves the use of ultraviolet (UV) light in order to slow the growth of skin cells that may be causing your condition. It helps to block the overactive immune response that is often stimulated by certain skin conditions.

We have several lasers and an intense pulsed light (IPL) source for treatment of a variety of skin lesions and cosmetic concerns. Benefits of laser therapy include less pain, swelling, and scarring when compared to surgery. It is also less invasive, has less downtime, and is more precise than surgery.

The lasers we use in our office include:

  • GentleMax Pro for laser hair removal, treatment of age spots, and treatment of facial and leg veins
  • VBeam (Perfecta) is a pulsed dye laser for removing discolorations, including rosacea, sun spots, age spots, and freckles, as well as other vascular pigmentation abnormalities such as poikiloderma, port wine stains, facial veins, and leg veins. It also treats scars, stretch marks, warts, and psoriasis.
  • Elos for skin rejuvenation and treating pigmented and vascular lesions such as freckles, sun spots and age spots, spider vessels, and redness from rosacea.

Medicinal Uses for Laser and Light Therapy

Though laser and light therapies are frequently used for cosmetic use, many medical dermatology conditions can be treated with lasers as well. Acne, alopecia, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and psoriasis, as well as skin cancer including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma can all improve through the use of laser therapy or phototherapy.

Cosmetic Uses for Laser and Light Therapy

Rosacea, Spider Veins, Dilated Blood Vessels, and Hemangiomas
We have two lasers and an intense pulsed light source for treating facial spider veins (sclerotherapy) and redness. The Aura-KTP laser is primarily used for facial spider veins, while the V-Beam (pulsed dye laser) can treat rosacea and fine vein networks and diffuse redness, as well as hemangiomas. Our intense pulsed light source and V-beam laser can also be used for treating spider veins of the legs.

Port Wine Stains
The V-beam pulsed dye laser gradually lightens port wine stains. Multiple treatments are needed to maximize results.

Hair Removal
There are several laser and intense pulsed light sources used for hair removal. We perform hair removal with our new Gentlelase laser, which is considered to be one of the most effective therapies. A series of treatments is required to achieve maximum long-term hair reduction.

Freckles and Pigmented Lesions
Both our Gentlelase laser and Ellipse intense pulsed light source are effective in eradicating or reducing the color of pigmented lesions.

Photoaging
The Ellipse intense pulsed light source can improve skin texture, skin discoloration (both red and brown), and fine lines. A series of treatments is required for optimum results.

Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars
The V-beam laser can lighten the color of red scars and help flatten elevated scars.

Acne and Actinic Keratosis
We offer treatments with the Blu-U, a new blue light technology for inflammatory acne and sun-induced pre-cancer lesions.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense pulsed light is an advanced technology that allows light spectrums to target various molecules in the skin over a range of wave lengths. It is commonly used for hair removal, offering longer-lasting results than other hair removal options. IPL is also used in the treatment of acne, rosacea, and pigmented lesions such as birthmarks and sun damage.

We are very proud to offer this state-of-the-art beneficial and safe treatment method at Dermatology Associates of Concord.
