Surgery

As Dermatologists, we are knowledgeable about the biology and pathology of the skin. This expertise allows us to decide which medical or surgical approach is best for each patient. Most surgical procedures for benign and malignant lesions can be easily performed in our outpatient setting.

  • Cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen) is commonly used to treat warts, precancerous lesions and occasionally skin cancers. The successful elimination of these lesions is a result of the freezing temperature which destroys tissue. This modality can also be used to remove many types of benign lesions for cosmetic reasons.
  • Electrosurgery is a frequently used form of surgery for removal of benign and malignant lesions. Tissue destruction is accomplished by heat generated by an electrosurgical apparatus.
  • Excisional surgery is used for complete removal of benign and malignant lesions when indicated. This procedure allows for microscopic analysis of the tissue.
