Melissa M. Burnett, M.D.

BIOGRAPHY

Melissa Burnett graduated with honors from Wellesley College where she received her BA in psychobiology.  After college she attended the University of Vermont College of Medicine.  During medical school she was active in community service projects locally and internationally.  As part of the Smile Docs program she taught elementary school children about preventive health; and her research in teenage motor vehicle accidents was utilized to support and pass a graduated driver’s license in Vermont.  In her fourth year she spent four weeks providing medical care and supplies in an under-served area in Thailand. 

Following medical school Dr. Burnett completed an internship in pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by residency in Dermatology at the University of Minnesota where she served as Chief Resident in her final year.  In addition to her clinical practice with Dermatology Associates of Concord, she is currently an Associate in Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital where she practices pediatric dermatology, and a Clinical Instructor for Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Burnett also participates in the vascular birthmark clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital.  She is active in the teaching of medical students and residents and is also currently involved in clinical research.  She has lectured locally to both physician and community groups.

Dr. Burnett has a particular interest in pediatric dermatology, but enjoys caring for both children and adults.  In addition to general dermatology, her clinical interests include vascular and other birthmarks, genetic skin disorders, atopic dermatitis (eczema), skin cancer screening and prevention, procedural and cosmetic dermatology.  She performs a variety of cosmetic procedures including chemical peels, laser, Botox and Restylane.
